Re: whats a good starting strategy?
This means that the efficiency loss, per Burner Inserter used to move Coal, is a bit over 2%. You clearly play the game differently than me :P I absolutely don't care about efficiency, if there's not enough, I'll put down more miners. If there's no space for more miners, I'll build a train to somew...

Re: Does the game know my screen resolution?
I haven't actually checked, but I believe for me the game runs at the screen's native resolution. Many flatpanels have an information display that will show the resolution it's receiving, that might provide some information. I don't think mine has such an information display. What does the "bi...

Re: Wanted: Keypress to take "few" items from stack
Yea, would work for many. Scrolling like so is on Mac ... Difficult. And it is used for zooming the map. My mouse has a semi-faulty scroll wheel. It kinda works, but is useless for precision things. Then again, the whole "add few" thing is meant to be in-between the option of "add 1&...

Why not build all Boilers and Steam Engines at once?
Is there a problem with building a "full setup" of Boilers and Steam engines at once? My usual setup is that I build all Boilers at once, usually 16 (I've found that 13-14 isn't enough) in several rows, with Underground Piping between so I can more easily move around. Then I build a convey...

Re: Wanted: coal-powered Assembling Machine f. early game
The whole game is based on research progression. That said, it is my belief that the first thing you should be able to do is automate red research packs. IE, I want to be able to automate prior to researching anything. I feel the game doesn't feel right where I have to craft RPs in order to researc...

Sure, but that takes up a lot of space. I already build hugely sprawling factory facilities, and I don't want even more spatial bloat.DaveMcW wrote:https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... php?t=4078Peter34 wrote:(and I don't know of any reasonably simple in-game method to cause such a delay)

Can I zoom mini-map? / direction to enemies?
Is there a way to zoom the mini-map in the upper right corner of the screen? It's way zoomed out, which makes it non-trivial for me to figure out exactly where the attacking aliens are, relative to my position, so I know which direction to run in to give them some sweet, sweet uzi. Alternatively, is...

Does the game know my screen resolution?
A couple of days ago, I watched some youtube videos of Factorio, and to ginormous my surprise they looked prettier at 720p than actual gameplay does on my 1600x1200 monitor. Usually it's the other way around, with youtube vids pretty damn ugly, because of compression and so forth, and of course 720 ...

Re: New to the game, need a setup
(Statements here are for .11.x version. May not apply to .10.x and earlier.) you're mistaken. no worries, it's barely noticeable. Furnace is ~.1s faster, so you might notice a blip of it not running if it doesn't have extra ore waiting. Best solution, drop a couple of those ores you've manually min...

Re: [Solved] Always Tons of Enemy
OMG! I alway thought "Starting Area" means how many Enemy Bases ar in my starting area !! becouse its ritgt under the Enemy bases... THANKS !!! Lol Noob No, you're not a noob. The game setup screen is just very poorly explained. I had no idea what the "starting area" setting did...

Re: whats a good starting strategy?
Do you guys purposely restart until you land in the middle of a desert? I never have problems finding wood. I like deserts. The terrain colour is a nice contrast to the various things I build and gather. So yes, I usually restart until I find meself in desertland with nice deposits of Iron and Coal...

Re: whats a good starting strategy?
No, that mining setup burns coal to mine coal :) Feeding the miners directly into each other limits the amount stored to the max stacksize. My setup is only limted by the chest size. Both of you have a point. But the problem with using chests as buffers, early game, is that each Burner Inserter bur...

Re: whats a good starting strategy?
Miner 1 on iron, filling a furnace. Miner 2 on stone, filling a box. Feed them with wood until you get coal set up. I mine coal with my starting Axe. The Wood I gather is too precious to burn - I need it to make Chests, and later Small Power Poles! And it has to be manually gathered, all of it, whi...

Can I cheat to grant myself 2 technologies at game start?
I'd like to have the ability to make Steel and Medium Power Poles right from the beginning, since the Small Power Poles really, really annoy me. Or at least start with a bunch of them. Is there a way to do that? Or rather, I imagine there is, what is the easiest way of doing it? I tried looking for ...

Re: New to the game, need a setup
And to illustrate your point, I always set my first burner drill up on iron and feed that straight into the furnace. I power both with some wood I've already collected while scouting the area. While the first plates are being smelted, I'll mine some stone so I can make my next drill to place on coa...

Wanted: Keypress to take "few" items from stack
Early game, I often sit there counting out units of Coal to add to my Burner Inserters. One, two, three, four, five. I have to do that, when Coal is scarce, because the game interface gives me limited options. I can take the while stack, or half the stack, and when I'm holding the stack (so that the...

Wanted: coal-powered Assembling Machine f. early game
The game seems obsessed with rushing the player to electricity as quickly as possible. Sometimes it's nice to play more slowly, stay in the Coal Age for longer time, before making the great leap forward to electricity. But two things impede this. One is Research, you can't do that without electrical...

Wanted: Slower Inserters
I'd really like two more Inserters added to the game, both electrical: Slow Inserter and Very Slow Inserter. The Slow one should be the same speed as the Burner Inserter, or slightly slower, and the Very Slow one should be half the speed of the Slow one. Reason: Sometimes I have some thuff on a Belt...

Bunch of questions from new player
I've read the official wiki. Probably every single page of it. But I still have some unanswered questions. 1. Is there a way to move electricity long distances without setting up a line of poles (which costs Wood, which must be gathered manually)? I think I once read something that alluded o being a...
