Graphical Bug (worked fine in the past)

Post by lerouse »

I have previously ran the game fine for a long time, today I opened up a save and I am getting the issues displayed in the screenshot below. Areas of the map that are pixelated and icons in inventory and quick bar not showing.

Fixes attempted

I have tried all the things mentioned in the post below without any luck.

I have tried reinstalling factorio, while removing any files from program files and app data to make sure.

Restarting and fully shutting down computer

This happens on existing saves, new games and the campaigns.

Were you at least using version 0.12.7 when trying solution #2? That option didn't exist before then.

This same weird bug happened to me early too, seemed weird since it was right after the 0.12.13 update which didn't mention any changes to graphical stuff I think. So after checking that post you linked, it solved it for me. I think the problem was openGL, however since I changed all of the settings that were proposed in the post I'm not sure if it was exactly that.
Also, I couldn't even start factorio because of a mod, could this be your problem maybe? I tracked it down by starting up and down disabling a different mod each time.

Almost all of the mods need to be updated because the devs made some changes

An outdated mod would prevent the game from starting, not cause such artifacts.

I missed that bit of information and did not use 0.12.x when trying the opengl solution.

I have upgraded to 0.12.7 and it seems to have solved the issue, but I had to set opengl to true in the config file.

Thank you for the help.

P.S. I was not using any mods apart from the base mod that comes with the game.

I had this same bug just start with 12.13 today when I upgraded, having never seen it before. This was in a vanilla brand new game with every mod disabled.

Edit: force-opengl=true fixed it for me. I'm on AMD.
