Multiplayer

I want to get my friend to play with me and I am considering buying him a copy of the game. Tried to buy the game directly from the Factorio website but it forwarded me to humble bumble which was where i bought it. I suspect he is going to want to play off Steam. Can we still multiplayer together if this is the case or are the 2 platforms incompatible even though they are both PC?

Someone more knowledgeable might be able to give you more details, but here's my experience. I bought the game through steam. That gives me the option to also download the "standalone" from Factorio's website, which is then played outside of steam. I play online with a friend of mine, he's on steam only, I play the non-steam version with him, no issues. Does that help?

Thanks that just what I wanted to hear.

BTW woot woot no longer a burner inserter. Is there anyway I can lock it on the yellow? Not a fan of the red or blue until I make filtered
